Hair and Beauty
The Hair & Beauty department endeavours to deliver a curriculum that is engaging and inspiring, and which reflects the demands of the industry.
Key Stage 3
VTCT Entry 3 Extended Certificate in Hair and Beauty Skills (VRQ) is to prepare you to operate independently and effectively in life, learning and work. All the units in this qualification relate directly to preparing you to independently care for your personal grooming, personal hygiene, appearance and personal presentation.
Key Stage 4
VTCT Level 1 Award in Hair and Beauty Skills (VRQ) is to enable pupils to develop hair and beauty skills, techniques and knowledge, which will prepare pupils to progress to the next level of vocational learning. All the units in this qualification directly prepare learners for further study in the hair and beauty sector.
All units in this qualification have been designed as a foundation for further study both in the hair and beauty sector and more broadly. Pupils will develop knowledge of the hair and beauty sector and use this as a basis for further learning at Level 2, as a full time or part time learner.
This qualification will enable pupils to develop the practical hair and beauty skills and techniques required to create a total look using colour and is delivered in Year 10 Summer Term 2, as an additional qualification embedded within the Level 2 course outlined below.
VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy (VRQ) is a Technical Award specifically for 14-16 year olds.
This qualification aims to support young people to:
- develop a broad and comprehensive understanding of the hair and beauty sector
- develop knowledge, which spans the entire vocational sector and related industries
- develop academic study and transferable skills that will support progression within the hair and beauty sector and more broadly
The aim of this qualification is to use the hair and beauty sector as a vehicle to develop learners more broadly, so they are prepared and equipped with the knowledge, understanding and skills to pursue a career in any context.
After School Clubs
For Key Stage 4, pupils on the course attend a weekly club to develop their practical skills. The afterschool club is based within the school and is set in a realistic salon environment where you are able to learn and practice current techniques for styling hair, applying make-up and nail care/art.
This rare and unique opportunity will enable you to taste the practical skills that you can develop further at college, or simply to brush up on your own appearance and personal presentation. Either way, this will give you an invaluable insight as to whether this is the career path you wish to proceed in when you finish school. Hair and Beauty is a multi-billion pound business and provides a wealth of employment opportunities world-wide.
