Welcome to your weekly Careers Blog. The Careers Blog will be used to communicate information on forthcoming careers events, college application opening and closing dates, college open days and much more.
We would encourage all Year 11 students to access the blog on a weekly basis to keep up to date with key dates and all things careers related which could prove useful in their final year at Hollingworth Academy
COLLEGE OPEN DAYS
ROCHDALE SIXTH FORM COLLEGE
Rochdale Sixth Form College will be holding an open event on Thursday 21 November, from
4.00 pm until 7.00pm. Students should be accompanied by an adult, otherwise entry may be refused.
THE OLDHAM COLLEGE
The Oldham College will be holding an open evening on Wednesday 6 November. The event will start at 2.00pm and conclude at 6.00pm. As previously stated, students should be accompanied by an adult.
THE MANCHESTER COLLEGE
The next open event at The Manchester College will be on Thursday 21st November at locations across Manchester. The evening will commence at 5.00pm and conclude at 7.00pm. More information can be found at www.tmc.ac.uk or by phoning 0800 068 8585. Students should be accompanied by an adult.
HOPWOOD HALL COLLEGE
The next open event will be holding an Access All Areas Open on Wednesday 20 November. The event will commence at 4.30 pm and conclude at 6.30 pm. Please ensure you visit the correct campus according to which subject area you are interested in. For more information follow the link below.

COLLEGE APPLICATION OPENING AND CLOSING DATES
Students should submit at least two college applications to ensure they have a back-up plan in place should exams not go as well as expected. You can submit as many applications as you wish. You only need to decide which college you prefer once you have your GCSE results.
ROCHDALE SIXTH FORM COLLEGE
Applications for the Rochdale Sixth Form College will open online from 16th September, with the deadline for applications being Thursday 19th December.
OLDHAM SIXTH FORM COLLEGE
Applications for Oldham Sixth Form College will open online in October (date to be confirmed) and will close on 17th January 2025
HOPWOOD HALL COLLEGE
Applications for Hopwood Hall College open on 30th September. Whilst there is no official deadline, applications received by Christmas will be given priority. It should be borne in mind that popular courses fill up quickly, and so students are advised to apply sooner rather than later to secure their place on their chosen course and to avoid disappointment.

BURY COLLEGE
Applications for Bury College will open on Tuesday 1st October and close on Monday 25th November.
I have been asked to remind pupils that the closing date for priority applications is Monday 25 November. Whilst applications will still be accepted after the priority deadline, please apply sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment.

POSITIVE STEPS
Lynsey Lovelock, our Positive Steps Careers Advisor is in the academy every Tuesday and Thursday. If you think you would benefit from a meeting with Lynsey, please call into the LRC and I will arrange a meeting with her as soon as possible.
If you need help with your online college applications, both Lynsey and Mrs Travis will be available after school in the LRC every Tuesday and Thursday.

Apprenticeships give you the chance to get out into the real world and get started on your chosen career. Apprenticeship courses are a brilliant way to gain new practical and professional skills, on-the-job training, nationally recognised qualifications, and to earn money at the same time.
All ages are welcome to the open evening and you can bring along a parent/carer or other adult too. You will be able to speak to employers on the day and get some careers advice. Jobs can also be applied for whilst attending the open evening.

FORTHCOMING EVENTS
On Thursday 14 November, we will be hosting our annual Year 11 Mock Interviews. This will be attended by representatives of our local FE and Sixth Form Colleges as well as service providers, local businesses and organisations.
The event will provide our pupils with the opportunity to experience at first hand an interview situation. Pupils will be given constructive feedback following their interviews.
